Teams League
Regular Teams Leagues are currently very popular in the bridge world, and we are going to start one of our own, on the first Thursday of every month, starting on Feb 2nd 2012.
We are delighted that the London Super League has decided to make the YC its home, but we do not anticipate any conflict between that event and this new teams league of ours. The London Super League is aimed at the strongest players around, from this and other clubs. Our format will be a bit different in that we want it to be a club event (although non-members will be allowed). We're aiming it at the full range of our club members from the strongest to the least-experienced, and we'll have small groups - four teams per division - to ensure lots of movement between divisions, and to provide good competition between the teams.
Teams can have up to eight players, to avoid difficulties in fielding a team, and one team will go up (and one down) from each division at the end of each three month season. Each match will be of 24 boards, scored by IMPs converted to Victory Points. Level 4 system agreements will be allowed throughout, but teams in the top division will also be allowed to play Level 5 systems if they give notice and provide a defence.
Entry will be £20 per team, and all the entry money will go as prize money to the winning team. Players will then pay table money for each game they play, at the lower Thursday rate of £6.50 for members, £10 for visitors. An email to the club now will reserve you a place, with confirmation and entry fees to be concluded in the new year.
