I would like to thank all of those members who have contributed thus far
to making the club's fortieth anniversary such a success. The halfway
stage on the club's actual birthday on May 8th was a particularly
successful evening, with a record number of tables for the Swiss Pairs (won by Gad Chadha and Brady Richter),
resulting in a competitive but relaxed atmosphere. Prior to that, the draw
for the "Play with an International" pairs on Thursday 15th took place, and
there was a brief cake-cutting ceremony after which everyone was offered a
slice or two of a magnificent anniversary cake presented by Simon Cochemé.
A respectable sum was raised for the Alzheimer's Society, and some
interesting pairings were thrown up. Next Thursday promises to be a night
to remember for the lucky winners. And, indeed, for some of the
internationals...
The continuing support of the members has been gratifying, especially over
the last couple of months. As the 40th anniversary celebrations enter
their second stage, remember the other drive - "It's Your Club". You have
all made it what it is, and have all demonstrated that you can continue to
do so.
