Young Chelsea 40th Anniversary Calendar

To celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Young Chelsea (on 8th May 2008), we have organised a series of events during the twelve months around the anniversary. Some of these are already part of the annual YC calendar, but will be given a special anniversary flavour, others are new events which we anticipate may become part of the regular lineup, and some are special one-off events just for the celebration year.

Here is a list of the events we have planned together with the names of the members responsible for their organisation - feel free to offer your services in helping. More details will be added as they become available.

Anniversary Programme Launch at the YC's AGM.
Raffle tickets for the Play with an International event on 15 May 2008 go on sale - part of the proceeds will go to the Alzheimer's Society
Party for YC Marathon winners - for previous winners of the YC Marathon and bridge journalists
2pm - 29th YC Marathon - 165 boards of bridge in 24 hours, played for the biggest prize in a club event in England - Organiser: Brian McGuire
6.30pm - Christmas Party - the biggest and best ever: food, drink, and bridge with many spot prizes - Organiser: Ricci Hammond


1pm - University Challenge - a single extended-session teams event for students and alumni from London Universities and Colleges. £10 per player (half price for students) - Organiser: David Muller
1pm - Inter-Club - an invitational event for teams from bridge clubs in London - Organiser: Ian Payn
Young Chelsea v. Manchester Bridge Club on BBO – 8pm - will make Chelsea v Manchester United look like a football match - Organiser: Tim Gauld
2.30pm - 5th Young Chelsea Individual - in memory of Keith Loveys - Organiser: Debbie Sandford
Anniversary Swiss Pairs - plus birthday cake and the draw for the Play with an International event
Play with an International - 26 players who have represented their countries are available to partner you! This event will raise money for the Alzheimer's Society - Organiser: Nicole Cook
2pm each day - Inter-National teams event - for foreign players who live in London - Organiser: Simon Cochemé
Young Chelsea Summer Party - food, drink and an evening of fun - Organiser: Zhenya Winter
Final of the 9th YC Knock-Out - the YCís premier teams competition, and an opportunity to play in the Lederer - Organiser: Brian McGuire
YC Party at the Brighton Congress - bringing together YC members past and present for drinks & speedball bridge - Organiser: Chris Duckworth
Young Chelsea Simultaneous - a chance to play some hands from the Young Chelseaís past - Organiser: Mark Davies
62nd Lederer Memorial Trophy - hosted by the YC for the last 26 years, a great opportunity to see the stars in action - Organiser: Stefanie Rohan
